Dear Eatontown church families,

This November, I will be partaking in the New York City Marathon. A
grueling 26.2 miles (42.195 kilometer) run through our Big Apple.
However, I am not running alone. I will be joined by dozens of people
who have been touched by cancer. I will be running the American Cancer
Societys Determination Program. If you are familiar with the ACS
Relay for Life event, it is similar.

In order for me the successfully participate in the marathon, I need
to raise money for the amazing organization that is the American
Cancer Society, who provide financial and logistical support for
families with loved ones affected by cancer. However, more profoundly,
they provide the emotional support and the guidance that is
incomparable to any amount of money. This is why I decide to run the
marathon with this organization. I have had the privilege to meet two
very young survivors of this disease in my life. That is one David
Zilly and Maggie Gaal, former of whom I hope you have had the chance
to meet already.

Despite his goofy smile and lanky stature, he represents more of the
strength of the human spirit than we can ever have. The bravery and
the resiliency I see in him, midst of all the jokes he makes and the
light-hearted nature he embodies, is the reason why I am running in
his honor. At the age of 22, I wish to demonstrate some of bravery and
resiliency he showed at a much earlier age. I hope that his story can
be as of an inspiration to you as it was to me.
